Coffee has been grown at Fazenda Sertão for over one hundred years. When Nazareth married José Isidro Pereira in 1949 the couple became the farms second generation of coffee producers. With the help of their children and grandchildren they managed the farm through times of rapid change. Now, as the younger generations take over, the farm and Pereira family continue to produce some of the regions best quality coffee.
34 families live and work on the farm, receiving free housing, transportation, medicine and education. The farm produces four varieties of coffee, some food crops and Girolando cattle. Coffee is grown only where it is best suited; on top of hills where it is safe from frost and on the sides of hills where ample sun ensures uniform ripening. Quality coffee varieties are processed in both classic natural and pulped natural methods as well as more experimental methods. A one hundred year commitment to excellence in the production of coffee is evident in the cup. Fazenda Sertão is a universally pleasing coffee; sweet, balanced and delicious.
